Time for Spring Rush: Are Sororities for You?

by: arichardson

Our DSD Brand Ambassador, Rebekah, has advice for students regarding sororities and rushing:

This semester I went back to college and I decided to rush. For me, this was entirely unexpected. I had never imagined myself in a sorority and so I didn't know what to expect, or if it was for me. Here are two things I would tell any girl who is rushing or thinking of rushing:

1) There is no such thing as a "typical sorority girl." All sororities have unique aspects and there isn't an all-encompassing personality for sororities. I had in my mind that I wasn't "the type," when really there is no type.

2) Joining or not joining a sorority does NOT define you. I have seen so many girls the past few weeks stress about which sorority they'll rush, or which they were cut from, and it is not worth it. A sorority is meant to be fun, not stressful.

My view is that you should go into rush looking to make new friends and see if there is a group of girls that fit with who you are. If there is, then join, but if not, then don't worry. There are plenty of people at every college who are and are not part of Greek life.

If and when you DO join a sorority, remember to come back to DSD.com for all your Greek needs! We have so many fun things. See them all here!
