College Style: Finding Inspiration
5/31/2011 - by Savannah Cyree
So you’ve done it. High school is over and now you are onto college. A whole new world awaits you but the first task you face: making the drab of a dorm room into your own person haven. The bland walls are not conducive to studying and you finally have a place to express yourself (well as long as your roommate can handle that expression).
Now the question you have to face is where to begin? Sometimes it can be hard to find that right pattern you want. It seems pointless to waste money on something that won’t last you more than a year so you have to search for the right piece. The easiest place to start is much simpler than you think: pictures.
Dorm Suite Dorm features these great hanging photo holders that let you feature over eight photos in each. You never have to worry about taking up precious desk space when a command strip and these gentle reminders of home can adorn your walls.
But while you are searching for motivation, there is one other place to start as well. Pick your accent piece. Find a piece that is completely you in every way and build around it. Be it a pillow, a lamp, a basket design or a college team, find that item that just says everything about you and go from there.
Take a classic spin, such as "Breakfast At Tiffany’s", and use the white and turquoise look as inspiration. Maybe your favorite film is a little more modern, "Because I Said So" or "Something Borrowed." Whatever it is, use you what you love to inspire you and let it flow from there. Wal-mart and movie theaters often have posters that can help with the process. But whatever you do, let it be an expression of you.
I know building a new home can seem like a tedious task. No one wants to waste money on item they won’t use again. But take the time to find that item and build off of it. Make it a place of comfort for you and have fun getting to know yourself along the way.
