Go Green and Save Some Green for Your Dorm Room
5/26/2011 - by Kim Weatherstone

Being eco-friendly to the environment is something everyone can do even if you live in a dorm! Here are some very simple tips on how to keep your dorm room “green”:

Use the Used: Don’t just settle for buying new stuff at Target or Wal-Mart . I’m sure you can find some great stuff at a cheaper price on Craiglist or EBay.

Use energy-saving light bulbs

Go Paperless: Instead of buying a ton of paper towels and napkins, use hand towels instead.  You’ll save money and time!

Plastic over paper: It’s always a good idea to buy some plastic kitchenware for your dorm, like plates, bowls, cups and utensils. This will save you from having to constantly buy paper products and it will keep your trash from accumulating. Another good idea when it comes to plastic is to buy a water pitcher or a nalgene bottle so you aren’t spending a ton of bucks on water bottles.

Turn the A/C off: When it comes to the A/C unit be cautious about leaving it running all day. If the weather is nice and its not that hot out open your windows and give the A/C a break for a while.

Feel good that you’re doing your part for the environment while saving a few bucks!
